The Great Recession of 2008, provided a name for this one. This very tall reddish lavender has a purple eye, cream edge, chartreuse throat, and instant rebloom, for a long season, starting one month after peak and going until mid September here. It is an EMO/CMO, good for cool nights and is sunfast at 98F. Parentage unknown, but probably PLANET MAX and a seedling. Fertile.
(Murphy, 2020) 28" EM 7" dormant, diploid; 2 branches, 14 buds;

Striking combination of colors: lemon with etched reddish-lavender eye, bisected with cream midribs, green throat, washed lavender tones as well. Skinny red partial edge. When this is blooming, many people go right to it, over other seedlings. Proliferates heavily. Very fertile. Sunfast to over 90.

This lavender pink cascade with chartreuse and apricot throat has cream midribs and a thin cream edge. The spectacular part of this plant is below the blooms. It has blue-green foliage, strong scapes, 5-way branching, 31 buds per scape. It is out of MARGO REED INDEED X NORTHWIND DANCER. It is very fertile, and a good parent for clear colors. (Reed, 2007) 36" M 6.5" dormant diploid Unusual Form-Cascade
I was so excited when this bloomed that I registered it immediately. I was sure it would be an introduction. After a couple of years of letting it multiply, it is ready! The bloom is a pale-lavender, almost translucent, white. The throat is cream. It presents as a very curly cascade, on 4- and 5-way branched scapes. I have seen as many as 6 blooms open on one scape. It is different from so many flat whites, in that it looks carved out of ice. Pod and pollen fertile. One of my best. Just a few available.
(Murphy-JP, 2023) 34" EM Re 5.25" Dormant Diploid, UF Crispate
Complicated colors of pewter lavender with green throat blending to cream white throat, that extends onto tepals. Lavender cream pattern edged purple. Veined and ruffled. Distinction in flower pattern and form makes this one unique in the garden. There is no question that this is Imperial Topaz and it will not get mistaken for another flower! Absolutely wacky and interesting children. Fertile both ways. Blooms long and slow, not all at once, and reblooms well here, especially in August and September. 1 branch and 12 buds in marginal conditions.
Out of ((Morrie Otte x Faulkner seedling) x ( Almira Buffalo Bone Jackson x lost tag))
Bright reddish lavender with a greyed edge on the petals. Cream midrib on petals, with a green throat.
The very curly and twirling blooms are attention getting!
I registered this plant, with short height, 3 branches and 13 buds, because that is what I counted on the line outs. Expect much higher numbers.
Out of (Ocean Depths x Amethyst Tears).
Pollen fertile and almost not pod fertile. Great kids with blue green foliage and extreme curling.
2021- I recorded up to 5 branches and up to 25 buds this year.
Only one plant available for 2024.
Rose with green throat, cream midrib and edge, red eye. Pink late in the day, but sunfast. This large flower reblooms more in our garden than any other daylily, here in the land of little rebloom. 3 sets of scapes here in average conditions, 4 in perfect conditions. Excellent parent, very fertile. Out of ZIP BOOM BAH by a seedling.
An apt name for this brilliantly colored cherry red spider with a crimson star next to its yellow throat. As saturated a color as I have in the garden, EMO, and sunfast at 100F. I selected through this entire cross of 100 for blacks and reds that were completely sunfast and this was the result. One or two branches and 20 buds, with moderate budbuilding let this one bloom for about 6 weeks. Out of EGGPLANT ESCAPADE by CHIEF BLACK HAND. Fertile. Many of the children carry the distinctive brilliant red, sunfast, and late characteristics.
Parent of 3 of my intros.
HARD DORMANT BLUE GREEN FOLIAGE that is late freeze resistant.
(Reed, 2019) 45" M 10" dor., dip., UF cascade
Amazing ivory-cream (near white) self with green throat. Extreme narrow form with heavy substance and ruffles on all segments. Fertile both ways. Parentage: ((Secretarys Sand x North Wind Dancer) x Ned’s Choice.) Weeping form with "spooky fingers" presentation.
( Murphy-JP, 2023) 26" ERe 5.25" Dormant Diploid
Cream with extremely variable blue eye, usually etched in violet. Sometimes patterned with charcoal, blue, lavender. Not registered as a poly, it exhibits 20% poly on first scapes and 40% on second scapes under good conditions. 2 branches and 18 buds on small plants, better on a clump. Janice Wood asked me to name this for her after seeing many different images. She has those piercing blue eyes, as you may have noticed.
I am introducing this at a high price and as a hybridizer-only plant for several reasons. It is glacially slow to increase. It passes on amazing attributes to its kids and grandchildren. It has pattern, poly, and rebloom genes that express in different combinations. I have at least 25 seedlings under evaluation from it. It also, with the right parent, has very vigorous children. It took me 5 years to get about 12 plants, and most are already spoken for. It increased maybe at a 2/1 rate in good conditions, and our average is 5/1.

Murphy, '01 - 53" Mlre 8" Dor dip Outrageously long blooming gold Unusual Form. Very tall. In 2016, started blooming July 4, and on the 23rd, it is about half way. Does well in most any conditions, and seems immune to most insects..

A very tall, large cream Cascade with purple band, chartreuse throat, and cream midrib. This very imposing plant is in bloom for 3 months with moderate bud building and instant rebloom. Sunfast at 101F at 7 p.m. Rain resistant. Three branches, 22 buds initially, more after bud building. I feel that this one is worthy of awards and would like to get it distributed, so I dropped the price to make it more affordable. Started blooming June 30 and is going strong on July 23rd, and starting to make new buds. Thanks to Cynthia Marriott for coming up with the name for this one and continuing to bring up good names!
2017- Bloomed from June 22 until October 26.
( Murphy 2012) 46" Late 6.5" Dormant Diploid Cascade
If you name a daylily to honor your mother, it better be good, and this one is. It is a ruffled lavender cascade Unusual Form with an apricot throat and lemon midribs. One of the best branched cultivars that I have introduced, registered with 6 branches (and up to 8), and 32 buds. It blooms a long time, very late into the season and is a moderate budbuilder. Completely sunfast at 101F and is still open and perfect at 930pm. Out of MARGO REED INDEED by NORTH WIND DANCER. (Exceptional parentage) Pollen fertile and pod difficult. GOOD BRANCHING
This light pink-cream with a bright rose-purple feathered eye is tall, well-branched (3-4 way) with lots of buds. It has an extended bloom season, and often reblooms. It is a CMO, open on cold mornings, and has good substance even late at night. It stands up through 90-100 degree days and rain. It is consistently showy and dependable. It is named after Jessie Cohen, a daylily friend who had a great garden and gave me much encouragement and support. It is a great pollen parent (but hard to set seeds as a pod parent), passing on the eye and great plant habits to many seedlings. Probably out of Flight of Orchids. ONLY 2 PLANTS TO SELL. Note from Jim - truly excellent parent, especially pollen. Makes branched kids.
(Murphy- JP, 2023) 37" EMRe 7" Dormant Diploid
My sister selected this one from over 2000 possibilities. Very contrasting color combination and views well from 50 feet away. Yellow with stark red eye. The form is variable from triangular to elongated to borderline cascade. Almost completely sunfast here. Blooms a long time. Fertile both ways.
Out of (Cloud Pillows x Eye Am).
Proven hardy in zone 5a.
This is a cherry red cascade, with a very green throat. It has 2 branches, 16 buds, in most conditions, but with good culture and rain, it bud builds and has 3 branches and 22 buds. Bloomed over 2 months this year. Out of Rose F. Kennedy x Earth Jewels. Unusual Form Cascade. Named for Kenan Witczak whose life was shortened by the rare Krabbe Disease. He passed away recently at 7 years old. His Grandfather asked me to name a daylily for him. His family and extended family have most of the plants, but a few are left. Fertile. I have 3 future intros with this as a parent.
Note, there is a law in Illinois now called Kenan's Law, that provides for testing at birth for this rare, devastating disease, THAT IS PREVENTABLE. When I think about it, and Kenan, I tend to cry, but tend to smile when I see this daylily bloom. Jim

Purple to black with muted black band. Green to cream throat with cream midribs and very narrow white edge on petals. Blooms heavily for about 3 weeks here. Very sunfast for one so dark, thanks to its parentage. Two of its parents were selected for being sunfast at 90F. Fertile both ways with many interesting purple kids. 3 branches and 21 buds in good conditions.

Only 1 plant available for August 2024.
Pink with light rose eyezone and yellow throat. This description does not do this overlooked plant justice. In the garden every one comments on this unique plant. One of the first northern patterned eyes. Very cute small one in the garden.
Bud Bennett passed away several years ago, and I would like to get his excellent round and/or ruffled diploids more than regionally distributed.
This great plant is many colors. Overall, a reddish lavender bitone, it has a strongly yellow throat, and cream edge, that becomes much whiter in hot weather. Sunfast in all conditions here. 4 branches and 29 buds, and very fertile. I have some very nice seedlings out of this, in reds, lavenders, and purples, all with some color patterning of this type. In 2017, it bloomed from 6/22 until 8/1 on first scapes and is currently blooming on August 15th, with more scapes coming. If you live north of here, don’t expect rebloom, except rarely, but South of here, you should have reliable rebloom on scapes with 20-30 buds. It will bloom a long time north or south. Murphy, 07 - 37" Vla 5.5" dor. Dip. Extremely late clear pink, cream edge, ruffled and creped
Truly a breakthrough plant. Clear Pink, and starts blooming as late as any cultivar that I know of. It will bloom alone in most gardens, in late August, September, and October. Clear Pink, cream edge, ruffled and creped, with a rounded recurved form, sometimes triangular. Four branches and 21 buds, held perfectly above the foliage on strong scapes. Out of AFTER AWHILE CROCODILE by SUE ROTHBAUER. Very fertile, excellent parent for very lates. ONLY 2 LEFT. It has rebloomed here every year since intro. I have several very late future intros from this.
(Murphy 2013) 44" VL 6" Dor Dip Ext UF Cascade After watching this clear lavender pink for several years in the very late garden, I am convinced of its worthiness for introduction. The cream midrib and cream edge combine with the clear tepal color to make the overall look one of cool and clear. It has a chartreuse throat and is sunfast. 5 branches and 20 buds. Fertile both ways, and the parent of many clear colored very late seedlings. Out of MARGO REED INDEED by HEAVENLY CURLS. Hard Dormant
Wide, lemon cream blooms with small green throat and white midribs. Fragrant, extended, with many blooms , 3 to 4 way branching and a very long bloom season. I thought it was a very late, but it just blooms that long! Fertile. Out of AFTER AWHILE CROCODILE by SUE ROTHBAUER.

Out of BRILLIANT IDEA by KIRSTEN MADELAINE BURKEY.
GOOD BRANCHING
Excellent parent of highly branched reds.
Lemon cream with darker yellow center and along midribs. Heavy bloomer in the very late season. After most plants are done for the year, a clump of this is in full, heavy bloom for 6 weeks. Outfacing, consistent, sun proof and rain proof blooms. Check out the clump images. Strong scapes; 3 branches, 27 buds. Fragrant. Parentage: (Running Late x Starfish Prime).

A big, gorgeous, clear lemon cascade with huge green throat, and a lighter ruffled edge. Very fragrant, diamond dusted, EMO blooms. Two branches, 18 buds, lots of proliferations, and some rebloom. Sibling to Rocket Science. Fertile.
This is an impressive, easy to grow clear lemon, very reliable.
Yes, I admit it, another yellow cascade. This one has some big merits. Clearest lemon, with very green throat, ruffles, EMO, Extended. It has excellent 4 way branching, with 22 buds on strong scapes. Very fragrant, very close to a spider at 3.9875/1. Fertile, out of SUNNY SON by SPIDER MIRACLE. Good grower.

Huge, lavender spider with a darker lavender band. Waxy green throat, changing to yellow on petals. Diamond-dusted blooms, with excellent 3 - 4 way branching, and 16 - 22 buds. Extra-beautiful blue-green foliage. Fertile. Has won awards in several flower shows.
(Reed, 2014) 40" M 5" dormant, diploid uf crispate
The delicate, airy appearance of this daylily is deceptive; this daylily stands strong (and light) on a well-branched scape that holds it high. Although it measures at 5", the bloom appears smaller as the ruffled petals recurve; the sepals stick out like wings. The color is a clean blue-purple, with a lighter watermark (band) and a white throat with a deep green touch in the middle. Combining my genetics with one of Pat Cochenour’s, I dedicate this one to her.
Pod and pollen fertile. Parentage: Snow Crab x (Grey Witch x Jack Carpenter sdlg #2)
(Reed, 2021) 40" M 6.5" dormant diploid. Unusual Form: Cascade
This daylily puts out a ruffled palette of dreamy lavenders: lavender with rose veining, lighter cream-lavender ruffled edges, blue-lavender hint of an eye, leading to a grass-green throat. It is just pretty. It has 3-way branching with about 20 buds. Parentage: seedling x seedling. I just had to keep it..
Cream with a rosy-violet pattern – an etched, jagged eye pattern, and chartreuse throat.
Tall, with well-spaced branching and excellent rebloom here.
Out of (Busy As A x Opal Road), two very good parents. It is producing some great, tall, patterned kids. Pollen fertile and somewhat pod fertile. 4 fans and 14 buds.
Last year and this year, we had at least three sets of scapes in our gardens in 5 different areas. I think that it will reliably rebloom in zones 6-8, and might in 4-5. 2022 we had 5 sets of scapes on two clumps and 4 sets on another.
Many reblooms in Maryland also. Jim
(Reed 2022) 38" MLa 6" dormant, diploid; 4-way deep branching with

This is a soft pink-lavender with a flat face presenting a lighter watermark edged with a purple line, and has a light green throat. Nice ruffling, substance, and pod fertility, plus good dark green foliage, add to this good garden grower. The pale-green/white throat extends into a watermark on the sepals; the petals have a more lavender band edged with purple.
(Dream Sequence x (Shenandoah Sunrise x Faulkner sdlg))
Murphy, '04 - 44" Emre 5.5" Dor. Dip. Narrow Yellow dotted with brownish purple dots. Green throat, very different look.
This is the supreme gardener's plant, with the best foliage, good scapes, perfect flowers, and very vigorous growth. The flowers are unique, the base color being dark yellow, but with large areas of the petals having hundreds of purple to brown dots. The sepals are edged in the same dots. These are regular, consistent patterns. The edges are ruffled. The green throat sets off the colors well. The scapes are slender and strong, and there is instant rebloom here, making for a long season. There are two branches and a terminal Y, with 24 buds, on average. This plant is unique and will not be mistaken for another. Parentage unknown.
Makes small fans- we send plenty.
(Murphy-JP, 2023) 45" ERe 7" Dormant Diploid, UF Cascade
Eye catching black-red-purple with very large, elongated green throat. The black intensifies further out towards the petal tips. This plant is visible from a long distance due to the distinctive color contrast. Quite sunfast. 2 branches and 16 buds but can have more with good culture. Fertile both ways and an impressive parent. I have several future intros from it.
Named for our good daylily friend from Keysville, Va. Louise saw this in a flower show where it won Best Seedling, then loved it in our garden. Bill Hurt and I agree that Louise is one of the true daylily ambassadors in our region.

Murphy, '07 - 32" Mla 7" sev.dip. UF - cascade. Reddish purple, white ribs, white edge
LUCKY STREAK has been watched carefully since its first bloom. It is the stark contrast between the cascading reddish purple petals and the white of both the midrib and edge that attracts all the attention. Wide semi arching foliage, and surprisingly fragrant. This EMO is sun resistant, but not sunfast on extreme days. Great parentage from AFTER AWHILE CROCODILE by PLANET MAX, with 2 branches, and 18 buds, it has a surprisingly long bloom season, and is fertile both ways.
In 2017, it had 3 way branching and 25 buds. Sold out for 2020 and 2021~ wish I had more.
