Murphy, '06 - 54" L 7" dor.dip. UF- cascade Tall light purple cascade that twists and curls as well as cascades. Strong, vigorous grower, with perfectly presented blooms.

I knew this one would be an introduction the first day it bloomed. A gorgeous 7" light purple unusual form cascade, carried high on 54" scapes with 2 - 4 branches, and 20 or more buds. The color changes on this one daily, starting out light reddish purple and end dark lavender, with vaguely blue-ish watermark. It has thick, strong scapes, with lots of proliferations, and it is a bud builder. Blooms have white midribs, yellow throat, green heart, and a ruffled white edge on hot days. Fertile and sun-resistant, with wide, dark green foliage.

Parentage: After Awhile Crocodile x spider seedling

Murphy, 2005 - 47" Mla Re 6.5" dor.dip. Clear red, tan & cream edges, yellow midribs, yellow throat. Fertile and an excellent parent for color patterns.

Clear red edged tan and cream, with yellow throat, green heart, and yellow midribs. For three years, everyone wanted me to introduce this one, and I resisted. It has a bud count of 10, is the reason. It can have more, with good culture, and does some rebloom. The colors are very clear and distinct, and the blooms are held high on tall, strong scapes. Good foliage, good blooms in adverse weather. An excellent parent.

Murphy, '05 - 39" EMRe 6" semi.dip. Clear lavender & creamy lavender bitone, purple eye, green throat

Clear lavender and creamy lavender bitone with a purple eye and green throat. ALLEGORY is the sibling to this year's THANKS MISTER WIZARD, and last year's LUNA, WIDE EYE BAYOU, and HOWS THE WEATHER UP THERE, hence the name. With 3 branches, 22 or more buds, and instant rebloom, it has a very long bloom season. Several people asked me to introduce this extended bloomer, out of RADIANT MOONBEAM by MOUNTAIN TOP EXPERIENCE.

Murphy, '05 - 40" Mla 8.5" dor.dip. UF smooth golden orange self, 20% poly, 20%double, 60% single UF. A good breeder for poly UF's, and fertile both ways.

Pinched Crispate Unusual Form. This smooth colored golden orange self has many different forms. Why? About 20% of the blooms are polytepal, 20% double, and 60% single, yielding the name. Although registered as having 15 buds, it blooms a very long time, with good scape production, and reliable instant rebloom. The rebloom scapes to have a higher percentage of poly and double blooms.

Murphy, '04 - 55" MLaRe 7" dor.dip.UF Huge orange and gold cascade with red eye, fragrant, award winning.

This is the one that won best seedling in the National Capital Daylily club flower show in 2003. It is bright orange and gold with huge red eyezone and a gold throat. The plant, scapes, foliage, and flowers are all huge. It bloomed this year from June 30 to October 1. The wide light blue green foliage is winter dormant. Interestingly, the stamens and pistil are orange. The scapes are massive, with 2 to 3 branches and 27 buds. Some scapes leaned during Hurricane Isabel, but none fell. I named it after a great lighthouse on Long Beach Island, off the NJ coast that can be seen a very long distance. You can see this plant in bloom from a long way. It is registered as a ML, but blooms right through Late and into Very Late.

Murphy, '05 - 47" MLaRe 7" semi.dip . Brilliant cherry red spider, etched, patterned throat, green heart.

Brilliant cherry red, with an etched, patterned throat, not eye. Throat is Chartreuse and yellow, with a green heard. This flower has some of the cleanest color in the garden, and is very sunfast. It also has a tiny red edge, hard to see, and a spider ratio of 4.22:1. The branching is poor with only 1 and an adequate budcount of 15. It does do instant rebloom here, for a long season of bloom. Sibling to my ALBERENE.

Murphy, '05 - 34" M 6" dor.dip. Red with yellow midribs and wide cream edge, only 2 left

Red with a wide, creamy, ruffled edge, yellow to cream midrib, and yellow throat. This flower is a step forward in color patterns for spidery daylilies. The creamy edge is very wide, and the pattern is very unusual. It did attract a lot of attention in the garden this year. The foliage is good, the increase is very good, and it blooms well in drought or rainy weather, yet I almost didn't introduce it. Why? It is under my threshold for budcount and branching, with a budcount of 8 to 13, and little or no branching. It is very striking, and three experienced hybridizers thought that it should be introduced anyway. I predict a sellout for this photogenic flower. It is a good parent, fertile both ways.

Murphy, '06 - 40" Mla 8.5" semi.dip. UF Dark red purple cascade with lighter ruffled edges. Reblooms

This was the most talked-about of my intros for this year. The wacky blooms cascade down and around, in many ways, hence the name. The color is between red and purple, with a huge chartreuse throat, striking ruffled cream edge, and yellow midribs. It has a wingspan of 11", making it imposing on tall scapes. Very reliable rebloom here, sometimes multiple rebloom. 3 branches and 21 buds, but less on rebloom. Seems to bloom forever here, with "scattered rebloom". Lime green foliage, and unusually fragrant blooms for such a dark color. Of all my intros, selected for northern hardiness, this one might be less hardy in the far north. Fertile.

A pinkish red to rose bitone, with both green and yellow throat, red eye, and rose veins. This quite short 16" plant is perfect for the front of the border, and blooms nearly continuously here for 3 months. The rebloom scapes just keep coming on this hard dormant. One branch and 13 buds. Fertile both ways.

Murphy, '07 - 78" Vla 6" dor.dip. Very tall, well branched, high bud count. Gold blooms, red band. Vigorous, fast grower, blooms for months.

ELI MURPHY is the tallest and most vigorous daylily I have introduced. Definitely a back of the border plant, standing over 6' tall, and up to 7' tall, with 6 to 10 branches and 42 to 80 buds. This late to very late daylily blooms continuously for 7 to 10 weeks, with classically formed gold blooms with a red orange band. The scape diameter is huge, to hold up the stout scapes. In 5 years, 5 scapes out of about 100 have toppled during thunderstorms, all had nearly 80 blooms. Fertile both ways, breeds giants.
