This was the most talked-about of my intros for this year. The wacky blooms cascade down and around, in many ways, hence the name. The color is between red and purple, with a huge chartreuse throat, striking ruffled cream edge, and yellow midribs. It has a wingspan of 11", making it imposing on tall scapes. Very reliable rebloom here, sometimes multiple rebloom. 3 branches and 21 buds, but less on rebloom. Seems to bloom forever here, with "scattered rebloom". Lime green foliage, and unusually fragrant blooms for such a dark color. Of all my intros, selected for northern hardiness, this one might be less hardy in the far north. Fertile.

Murphy, '05 - 38" EERe 5.75" dor.dip. Cute very early butter yellow spider with feathered red eye.

Butter yellow spider, feathered red eye, gold throat, extended bloom. 4.43:1 spider ratio. This colorful flower, with blue green  hard dormant foliage, starts blooming before STELLA DE ORO here, and with instant rebloom blooms until July. Parentage unknown.

Bet you never thought you would see me introduce an edged full formed tet! EDGY has been a hit with its bubbly gold edge that flashes metallically in the sun. A pinkish red to rose bitone, with both green and yellow throat, red eye, and rose veins. This quite short 16" plant is perfect for the front of the border, and blooms nearly continuously here for 3 months. The rebloom scapes just keep coming on this hard dormant. One branch and 13 buds. Fertile both ways.

Shocking Red Spider with a green throat and a chartreuse midrib.  Rain Resistant red, sunfast at 98F at 7pm.   Spider Ratio 5/1.  Moderate Bud Builder.  3 branches, 19 buds, but more late in the season.  

Parentage:   TNT x WIRED.   Very Fertile, good parent for sunfast red spiders.

Murphy, '07 - 78" Vla 6" dor.dip. Very tall, well branched, high bud count. Gold blooms, red band. Vigorous, fast grower, blooms for months.

ELI MURPHY is the tallest and most vigorous daylily I have introduced. Definitely a back of the border plant, standing over 6' tall, and up to 7' tall, with 6 to 10 branches and 42 to 80 buds. This late to very late daylily blooms continuously for 7 to 10 weeks, with classically formed gold blooms with a red orange band. The scape diameter is huge, to hold up the stout scapes. Fertile both ways, breeds giants. Margo and Jim both have future intros from this giant. Pictured is a single fan plant!! Can't seem to keep it in stock.

Very eye-catching and different!  Cream to light tan in the morning, with a light purple jagged eye pattern. Tiny purple edge on the petals, chartreuse throat, and sunfast to 100F. On hot days it turns cream. 3 branches plus terminal, and about 27 buds. Vigorous, fertile. Out of GREY WITCH by a Jack Carpenter patterned seedling. Excellent parent for unusual patterned kids.          

Murphy 08 6" L 37" Dormant diploid Reddish Lavender with lemon throat, lemon midrib, and purple eye. A Cascade Unusual Form that starts Late, fragrant, ext., with three branches and 17 buds. It is out of AFTER AWHILE CROCODILE by LOLA BRANHAM, and is fertile both ways. Good parent for lates in many colors. It blooms in August and sometimes September here, with lots of blooms open at the same time. Very Showy!

Red with a darker red watermark, gold throat, green heart. There are very few dormant reds that bloom EE. This great flower just misses the spider ratio at 3.98:1. With instant rebloom, this is in bloom for 7 weeks, blooming June 2 - July 21st last year. It rebloomed in November too!

(Murphy 09) 34" EMre 6.5" Sev Tet Cascade UF

A wonderful feathered raspberry eye on a peachy cream background, completed by an orange throat. This long blooming cultivar has 4-way branching with 21 buds, perfect for shows. Very hardy here, out of ISLE OF DREAMS by WILD HORSES. It is fertile, and a good parent for cascades with eyes.

Black purple with a black band, chartreuse throat, and ruffled edges;  diamond dusted.  Unsually sunfast for a dark color and a sea of blooms in the late season. Fertile. (Don’t Know Jack x Chief Black Hand)  The only cultivar with this parentage, and an excellent parent. Hard Dormant

This large purple near-spider is held on very stiff scapes.  It has a black band and lemon throat, instant rebloom, and is very close to sunfast. It is an EMO, CMO, and extended, so, basically always open. Two branches and and 26 buds, with a 5 week bloom season here. Out of GREY WITCH by BLACK ICE.  Pollen fertile.

This dark red star is named in honor of Fred Benzinger, who was a mentor to many in this area. It is out of two late Benzinger seedlings, and carries a lot of those famous Benzinger characteristics of  toughness, good scapes, and carefree culture.  It is somewhat old fashioned looking up close, but from a distance is one of the best reds in the garden, with yellow throat, yellow midribs, and lots of blooms.  5 branches, 34 buds, strong bud-builder, very sun-resistant, and in bloom until September. Very fertile and a good parent for very late reds.

This 8" clear yellow twisted crispate has a very green throat, radiating out onto the petals in two distinct lines, and halfway up the stamens. The blooms are sunfast, rainfast, heatfast (100 degrees), and wind resistant. It blooms fast and furious, with 3 branches, 18 buds, and instant rebloom. Midlate, fragrant, dormant diploid, proliferations and dark green foliage. Very fertile.

Yes, many people have hit hard times in the past two years. I decided to introduce this $100 daylily for half of that, because it grows very fast and it will let some of us buy it that maybe shouldn’t otherwise.  This very tall reddish lavender has a purple eye, cream edge, chartreuse throat, and instant rebloom, for a long season, starting one month after peak and going until mid September here. It is an EMO/CMO, good for cool nights and is sunfast at 98F.  Parentage unknown, but probably PLANET MAX and a seedling.  Fertile.

Cream to light pink with a purple eye and chartreuse throat, cream midrib. Starts blooming early mid-season and bud-builds for a long time. Won Best Seedling, NCDC flower show this year. Fertile, sunfast at 102F, opens well at 50F.  3 branches, 23 or more buds.

This lavender pink cascade with chartreuse and apricot throat has cream midribs and a thin cream edge.  The spectacular part of this plant is below the blooms.  It has blue-green foliage, strong scapes, 5-way branching, 31 buds per scape.  It is out of MARGO REED INDEED X NORTHWIND DANCER.  It is very fertile, and a good parent for clear colors. Blooms into late August or September here.

Murphy, '04 - 56" Mla Re 7.5" semi.dip. Very tall, fragrant spider bitone. Lavender and creamy lav/purple eye.

This very tall, very sturdy plant held up to the ravages of Hurricane Isabel the year that it was introduced. It is a lavender and creamy lavender bitone with a huge yellow throat, grass green heart, and reddish purple eyezone. Striking in the garden because of its stature and modern form. It conservatively carries 2 branches with a terminal Y, and 21 buds. I have grown this plant to 68" and 4 way branching with extra water and fertilizer. It is right on the border of being classified a spider at 4.0:1. Many plants this tall have weak scapes, not this one.

An apt name for this brilliantly colored cherry red spider with a crimson star next to its yellow throat. As saturated a color as I have in the garden, EMO, and sunfast at 100F. I selected through this entire cross of 100 for blacks and reds that were completely sunfast and this was the result. One or two branches and 20 buds, with moderate budbuilding let this one bloom for about 6 weeks. Out of EGGPLANT ESCAPADE  by CHIEF BLACK HAND.   Fertile.

This nocturnal opens at Midnight, and stays open until dusk the next day. In the morning it has a dark pink watermark, and evening it is a yellow self. Interesting. Fertile.

If you name a daylily to honor your mother, it better be good, and this one is. It is a ruffled lavender cascade Unusual Form with an apricot throat and lemon midribs. One of the best branched cultivars that I have introduced, registered with 6 branches (and up to 8), and 32 buds. It blooms a long time, very late into the season and is a moderate budbuilder. Completely sunfast at 101F and is still open and perfect at 930pm. Out of MARGO REED INDEED by NORTH WIND DANCER.  (Exceptional parentage)  Pollen fertile and pod difficult.

Truly a breakthrough plant. Clear Pink, and starts blooming as late as any cultivar that I know of. It will bloom alone in most gardens, in late August, September, and October. Clear Pink, cream edge, ruffled and creped, with a rounded recurved form, sometimes triangular. Four branches and 21 buds, held perfectly above the foliage on strong scapes. Out of AFTER AWHILE CROCODILE by SUE ROTHBAUER. Very fertile, excellent parent for very lates. ONLY 3 LEFT. It has rebloomed here every year since intro.
