Reed, 2005 - 60" Mla 8" dor.dip UF/cascade - gold yellow with rose-peach blush eye, gr.th.tall

Truly standing above the crowd, Dances with Giraffes is at least 5 feet tall when established. The large blooms cascade and curl down from the tall scapes, golden yellow with a rose-peach blush eye above a green throat. It is registered as an unusual form/cascade. Difficult to set a pod, but the pollen is good. This makes a statement in the garden!

Reed, 2005 - 40" M 6" dor.dip. UF Lavender with purple eye, green throat

One of my favorites! This unusual form (crispate) features both the rolled sepals and the patterned, dark purple feathered eye on ruffled petals. This is the best of a number of seedlings out of a Jack Carpenter seedling. The blooms have good substance, and the plants make large fans. Fertile both ways. A scape of this cultivar won best unusual form in the Richmond (RADS) flower show in 2005, until it was disqualified for being registered the same year.

Bringing together many of the fancier elements of daylilies, this bloom is presented on very tall scapes to enjoy at eye level! The blooms are a deep rose-pink, with a lighter rose watermark, and lighter ruffled edges. Narrow and exotic, it has a green throat. Parentage is out of Loch Ness Monster. Fertile both ways.

Reed, 2006 - 52" Mla 6" dor. Dip. Unusual form, pink with rose eye, quilled sepals sculpting

GNARLY GNOME has been affectionately known as "Scrunchy" for several years (garden name). A personal favorite, it is tall, well branched, and is a consistent unusual form (pinched and quilled crispate). The colors are soft - ancient pink shades with a cream throat. Its outstanding feature is the form - the sepals pinch and quill, and the petals "scrunch" a little near the throat. Definitely unusual, especially at its height

Image of HARDWARE RIVER HARDWARE RIVER

Reed, 2006 - 30" La 6.5" dor.dip. Unusual form spatulate, clear red

HARDWARE RIVER may not be a very poetic name, but it is a lovely mountain stream that runs through out property, and on to the James River and Chesapeake Bay. It usually has very clear water, except after storms. The daylily of the same name has exceptionally clear red color. Not very tall by our standards, it has extremely good branching and bud count, and displays the blooms nicely. It may be a spatulate - open in the white throat, and widening out onto the ruffled petals, showing lots of color. The buds begin to open the day before and show ruffles early.

(Reed, 2007)  36”  M  6.5”  dormant diploid  Unusual Form-Cascade

I was so excited when this bloomed that I registered it immediately.  I was sure it would be an introduction.  After a couple of years of letting it multiply, it is ready!  The bloom is a pale-lavender, almost translucent, white.  The throat is cream.  It presents as a very curly cascade, on 4- and 5-way branched scapes.  I have seen as many as 6 blooms open on one scape.  It is different from so many flat whites, in that it looks carved out of ice.  Pod and pollen fertile. One of my best.
