Picture Plant Description

Display Only

(Reed, 09) 36" M 6" semievergreen diploid, ext. sunfast

Intense bright raspberry red with ruffles and a yellow throat narrowing down to green. It has some branching and a good bud count. It is easily fertile both ways. Bright color and open, graceful form make it show-off. The pollen parent was NATHAN SOMMERS, which gives us some beautiful red colors, and the pod parent was a dormant, hardy seedling out of Lola Branham and some red and pink seedlings ("Red Lola" x "Hot Pink").

(Reed, 09) 30" EM 7" dormant diploid, ext.

A real spider, or "mosquito legged" daylily, I chose this one because of its deep loopy ruffles. Unlike the "shoe string" skinny spiders, this one has personality because of the ruffles. It is a pink-lavender, with a purple eye. Its skinniness makes it unusual among mine. It is a sib to VIRGINIA MOONSHINE, but a little shorter and a little less branching. It is easily fertile both ways.

(Reed, 09) 36" M 6" dormant, diploid. Ext.

Rich orchid purple, with great ruffles, this daylily has a big splash of a feathered darker purple eye, and some white in the throat. It has good branching (2 to 3-way) and bud count of 15-20. It blooms over a long season and is somewhat variable in form, hence was not registered as an unusual form, unlike its sibling FLIGHT OF ORCHIDS. It is sometimes a pinched crispate, other times a relaxed exotic form, or close to a cascade. The color carries across the garden. It is easily fertile both ways. One parent was an unusual form Jack Carpenter seedling.

$55.00

(Reed, 07) 56" L 5.5" dormant, diploid

Quite tall, like pink turtles blooming on the top of 4-way deeply branched scapes (24 buds). Out of LOLA BRANHAM, this one blooms late and long. The blooms are not large, but recurved pink blend shells with darker pink stippling above a green throat. Its garden name was "Pink Towers". Fertile both ways. I am using it to bring pink colors into the tall cultivars. It was registered when I knew it would be an introduction, but it didn't get lined out for introduction until this year, because it blooms so late in the season.

(Reed, 09) 40" M 8" dormant, diploid, ext.

Pale, tall, and stunning, this narrow-formed, ruffled daylily is a "blonde-pink" with a wine purple band on the petals. It has excellent 3 and 4 -way branching, with a good bud count of at least 20. Its garden nickname was "Blond Architecture" because of the good scapes. Not narrow enough to be a spider, it is a large, open, exotic star. Blooms into the mid-late season.
