( Murphy 2014) 38" ML 7" Dormant Diploid Cascade UF
Smooth, light pink color, with distinctive apricot raised ridges on both sides of the light midribs. Very ruffled and curled, sunfast and rain resistant. Lightly fragrant, with 2 branches and 18 buds in spare conditions, more with better culture. Out of MARGO REED INDEED by NORTH WIND DANCER. Pollen fertile only. Long bloom period, with most bloom in July, and early August. RELIABLE September and October rebloom here.
My long awaited first intro from BRILLIANT IDEA by KIRSTEN MADELAINE BURKEY is not to be missed in the garden. It starts blooming here about July 1st and bud builds until September 1st . Unlike many red spiders, it is wide open on cool mornings at dawn and blooms until after dark. It has a red eye, green throat, lemon midrib, 5/1 spider ratio, and excellent foliage. Fertile, and an excellent parent. Both Margo and I have introductions from this fine parent.
Parent of 2024's Woodhenge Vampire.
We are introducing this new cultivar for David after watching it and loving it for 2 years. It is a light lemon self UF cascade double that reliably reblooms for us. It has many different looks , but most of the time it is a layered double and a 95% or better double. Not only is it a good garden plant, but has produced some of the best layered double spiders and UF's that I have seen. 3 branches, 18 buds. It is out of HOWS THE WEATHER UP THERE by FIRE FLY FRENZY. It has a tiny green heart. It allows non double spiders and UF's to produce double offspring, but not every time. (See images of two offspring ) Pollen fertile only, but very strong pollen
(Murphy, 2018) 51” M 6” dormant, diploid, Unusual Form – cascade.
Tomato red cascade with green throat and cream midribs. Longer blooming than almost any plant I have seen - 3 months this year. I was harvesting pods while pollinating new blooms. Sunfast to 95 here. Truly excellent parent of future intros. Freeze-resistant, blue-green foliage. Bud builder with big, strong, well branched scapes! Parentage: (September Flame x TNT).
Murphy 2011 39" MLRe 6" dormant diploid cascade unusual form
A sunfast lavender and raspberry with lemon cream throat and a ruffled cream edge. I went back and forth with whether it is raspberry or lavender and finally decided it is both. Registered with 3 branches and 18 buds, but more under good conditions, it also reliably re-blooms for us in September. Pollen Fertile, Pod Possible, out of MARGO REED INDEED by NORTH WIND DANCER.
Bloomed this year from about July 4 until August 15.
(Murphy, 2018) 45" EM 8" dormant, diploid, Unusual Form crispate.
Black-red variable crispate with huge cream to green throat and cream midribs. Excellent presence in the garden, with outfacing, sun resistant dark blooms. Very long blooming, fertile both ways. 3 branches, 15 buds. Parentage: (Buzzer Beater x Green Throated Robin).

(Reed, 2021) 48” M 8” dormant diploid, Unusual Form cascade
Large and open form, this is a ruffled cascade in a very clear medium rose-pink with rose band and large green throat. 3-way branching, bud count 14.
Parentage: (Appalachian Trail x Earth Jewels)
Reed, 2008 - 36" M 7" dor. Dip. UF cascade. Clean bright lemon, rose red band, ruffled branched
As I focus on cascade form daylilies, this one stands out for its consistent form and clear color. A clean bright lemon yellow with a rose-red band, it is neatly finished with large ruffles on all segments. Well-branched and budded, it is fertile. This is a child of Casey at the Bat, crossed with a gold cascade seedling. It presents the blooms well.
Quite tall, like pink turtles blooming on the top of 4-way deeply branched scapes (24 buds). Out of LOLA BRANHAM, this one blooms late and long. The blooms are not large, but recurved pink blend shells with darker pink stippling above a green throat. Its garden name was "Pink Towers". Fertile both ways. I am using it to bring pink colors into the tall cultivars. It was registered when I knew it would be an introduction, but it didn't get lined out for introduction until this year, because it blooms so late in the season. It has been a good parent.
(Murphy 2013) 32" M 7" Dor Dip Ext UF Cascade Introduced because of excellent plant habit, pure red color, and extremely green throat. The green throat dominates the bloom, fading to chartreuse near the edges, then melding into clear, bright red. Sunfast to about 95 here, with 2 branches and 20 buds. Highly fertile both ways, blooming for about 4 to 5 weeks here. Fast growing. Out of ROSE F KENNEDY by a Snooks Harville Seedling with excellent color.
2018- With our ample rain this year, Uncle Sam really performed well, blooming for a long time with perfect blooms. We had plenty of increase after being sold out. I dropped the price! Several hybridizers have shown me excellent images of their kids from it. 2020- Excellent performance this year after lining out last year.
Sibling of Devils Marbleyard, and grows much faster. It is similar in look to DM, but blooms longer.
Murphy, 07 - 51" Late 7" dor.dip. Very tall purple with dark purple eye, 5-way branching
Quite tall, and just under the wire for very tall. Gorgeous purple, with lighter purple sepals, and purple eye, with yellow and green throat. Once established, this plant is a forest of scapes and branches. It has 5 way branching, and 38 buds, on very sturdy scapes. Vigorous, fast grower out of GREY WITCH by HELGA BJORNERUD BURKEY. Fertile. Excellent parent for branching and bud count.
(Murphy, 2019) 48" VLa 7" dormant diploid, UF – cascade

Heading upstream into pattern breeding, this one is a complex combination of lavender, purple, and near-white, that fades from a subtle pattern to a more distinct pattern in hot weather. It has 3 branches and 15 buds, and is a vigorous grower. It is pod and pollen fertile. The parents are Yazoo Wild Violet and Caseys Curls, combining purple and red/orange in fun ways!
Vanilla Ice Cream (Murphy 2019) 6" LRe 28" Dormant Diploid
Cream with a good green throat. Ruffled edges. Starts out cream, bleaches to near white on hot days. Very fertile and one of the best parents for white that I have used. Two instant re-blooms here under good conditions. It is out of (Running Late x Jims Evil Grin). Sunfast. 3 branches , 15 buds. Starts Late and blooms into September here. There are only a few plants here that bloom this late into the season.
2023- was still blooming on original scapes when frost ended the season.
(Reed, 2017) 55" La 5.75", dormant, diploid, 3 branches - 24 buds (Tree Turtles x Planet Max) UF - cascade.
Ruffled rose-lavender with a large green-to-cream throat ending in a slight watermark.
In the late garden, a tall clump of Vintage Virginia makes a real statement. Opening slowly, it looks a little old-fashioned in the morning, but opens to a wide bloom later in the day.
Pale, tall, and stunning, this narrow-formed, ruffled daylily is a "blonde-pink" with a wine purple band on the petals. It has excellent 3 and 4 -way branching, with a good bud count of at least 20. Its garden nickname was "Blond Architecture" because of the good scapes. Not narrow enough to be a spider, it is a large, open, exotic star. Blooms into the mid-late season.
(Reed, 2019) 34" MLa 6" dor., dip., UF cascade
Light flamingo pink with several colors of rose pink and rose in the eye; the eye bleeds out to the end of all segments. Lighter pink ruffled edges and green throat. Great scapes with 4-way branching and moderate height. 28 buds. Fertile both ways. Parentage: (Metzger’s Purple Storm x (Peacock Curls x Heavenly Curls)). A garden favorite, named after our grandson, Walter!
(Murphy, 2013) 33" EM 7" dormant, diploid; Unusual form crispate, Polymerous
This melon self poly is a pinched crispate. 90% poly, but this year almost 100%. I selected through 5 siblings to this one and it proved to be the most consistent garden plant and high percentage poly. Fertile both ways. Excellent grower and garden plant. Reblooms frequently here.
(Reed, 09) 36" M 7" dor.dip.ext. Unusual form cascade.
This very white bloom is consistent and high-performing. It has the strength from RADIANT MOONBEAM, and the grace and narrowness from SKINWALKER. It is 3-way branched, with about 22 buds. The bloom has good substance and is slightly ruffled. Easily pod and pollen fertile. Delicious.
(Murphy-JP, 2023) 53" ML 6.5" Dormant Diploid, UF Cascade

Kropf+, '01 - 36" Mla 3" dor.dip. Proliferations occur in great numbers on top of scapes, like a wig!
In the very late season garden, this plant is covered in green proliferations, making it look like nothing you have seen in the daylily world. Very valuable as a conversation piece. Easily grown. If you grow it, you will notice it. Distinction.

WOODHENGE NATURAL (Murphy, 2016) Fall

Out of Negative Image by a vigorous patterned seedling.
An unusual patterned combination of colors- Red and rose dotted bitone with a darker red band, tan to cream edge, cream midribs, and yellow green throat. The dark red color and the edges fade during the hot days making the combination and pattern even more striking. Sunfast to the mid 90’s here. 3 branches, 23 buds, fertile both ways. Almost all of the kids have this type of patterning. An improvement on its very good parent, Negative Image, because it is quite vigorous.

Gold blooms with striking red eye, unique lavender midribs, and orange throat with green heart. An awesome color contrast, on tall scapes with decent branching and a budcount of 20, makes this one stand out. Fragrant, out of a Benzinger seedling by NUCLEAR MELTDOWN. Sibling to BARNEGAT LIGHT and this year's COROLLA LIGHT.
(Reed, 2013) 28" La 6" dormant, diploid, fragrant! Unusual form crispate.
To add calm beauty to the late season garden, this one has it all! Early in the morning it is trumpet shaped, looking like an Easter Lily, with purple stripes on the reverse of the sepals. Later in the morning it opens flat, with a soft cream-white face. It is a reverse bitone, with lavender on the sepals. Edged and stippled in lavender. It has sturdy scapes with four-way branching, and a bud count of 22. It makes a neat mound of blooms for a long time in late July and August. Bloomed until August 31 in 2012. Out of Lola Branham.
